Cushing’s syndrome and Cushing’s disease are often caused by benign tumor growth on the pituitary gland (called a pituitary adenoma ), cortisol-like synthetic medication use and the cortisol-increasing lifestyle factors mentioned above, so all of these will be addressed by your doctor if they’re contributing to your symptoms.

Diet alone is sometimes not sufficient to bring insulin down to healthy levels, so we turn to blood sugar lowering medications, when we should be first looking at cortisol levels. Most of the excess blood glucose with type 2 diabetics actually comes from the liver, which we’ve shown to be the case, mostly from excess gluconeogenesis.
